What is the difference between rocks and minerals?
If you were to purchase a very special piece of jewelry for a loved one, which rock or mineral would you choose for it, and why?
Both are solid inorganic substances. A rock however, can be a combination of multiple minerals or other substances. A mineral is a pure inorganic solid. I would buy my loved ones an aquamarine, because i really like the blue.
A mineral is a solid formation that occurs naturally in the earth while a rock is a solid combination of more than one mineral formations which is also occurring naturally.

The gem I would purchase would be a diamond, a Le Vian chocolate diamond. I would purchase this because the diamond is surrounded by strawberry gold which compliments the diamond beautifully.

ReplyDeleteRocks are comprised of minerals-rocks are a consolidation of minerals. Minerals on their own are classes of substances occurring in nature typically made up of inorganic substances of crystal and chemical composition. If I were to give a special piece of jewelry to a friend or a loved one I would choose a diamond for the stone. This sounds cliche, but I find diamonds to be beautiful. Not only are these rocks clear and pure, they are strong and outlast the life span of many other rocks and minerals. Their strength emulates the strong and undying love I'd have for the family member or friend I'd gift the jewelry to.

ReplyDeleteAll rocks are made of 2 or more minerals, but minerals are not made of rocks. A mineral is the same way all the way through and there are about 300 known minerals today. If I could get any rock or mineral I would get a Hruby ;)

If I were to choose a mineral to give to someone I love I would choose Benitoite because it is unique and rare and contains K, Na, Li, Fe, Mn, Ba, Ti,and Si. For example, quartz and feldspars are minerals, but when formed together, they make a rock, granite. If I were giving someone a special piece of jewelry, I would get them a jade necklace. My mom has always loved all kinds of jade. Because of her I started to like jade also. It is a very pretty color and I love how some of them are from Chinese culture. Jade is not one mineral but two different minerals which makes it even more cool.

There are three basic rock types.. igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. I would get a piece of jewelry that contained Emerald. You can find Emeralds in granite rocks. The finest quality of emerald is flawless and clear. Emeralds range in color from light to dark green. The color is a symbol of new life and the promise for spring.

If I were to buy a rock or mineral for a loved one, it would be a diamond. I chose a diamond because the only loved one of mine that deserves such a valuable gift would be my mother, and her birthstone is a diamond :-)
